Ashrawi: The Palestinian People Have Paid a Very Costly Price for the Negotiations

PLO Executive Committee member, Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, stressed: “The stagnant negotiations re-launched last year by U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, have been too costly for the Palestinian people.”

Ashrawi said, “The ‘peace process’ has cost us the lives of many Palestinian civilians, an unprecedented theft of land and resources, and the increase in settlement activities, among other measures of ethnic cleansing and apartheid carried out by the Israeli government.”

WW Commentary: Mamud Abbas needs to continue the application of the 15 treaties as well as application to the Hague Convention of 1907 on laws and customs governing war. Application to these ‘institutional bodies’ should not be part of the negotiating process. It’s tantamount to extortion and blackmail.

It’s shocking how the USA and European Union / NATO runs to the defense of Ukranians with money and military might claiming the Ukranians have an inalienable right to self determination, while claiming via their actions that Crimeans, who suffer oppression under the Ukranian government and by the Ukranian people, have no such right to the same self determination.

Where is the same language, the same money and the same military might for the Palestinian people? They also have the right to self determination. While the USA and European Union make plans to isolate Russia from the world community for annexing Crimea after 97% of Crimeans voted to join Russia (self determination), they give Israel the green light to continue the apartheid against the Palestinian people.

The hypocrisy demonstrated by the USA and the European Union gives them no credibility as negotiators for peace any where on the planet.

If Palestine does not follow through with all applications, they will never get anything. Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, has already stated publicly that he will not move one settler from the land they stole from the Palestinians and will continue with each and every one of his settlement expansion plans. That’s his end game and his ‘under my thumb’ aspiration.
