Sticks Stones And Names
“Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names can never hurt me.”
Remember that? Said by parents to children crying over being called names? Well guess what? Names do hurt. Names are not only libelous and slanderous, they cut to the quick whether true or not. It’s the manner in which it’s said, often times, that stabs the knife deeper into the psyche never to be forgotten.
That adults on social media engage in hurtful name calling means those people never graduated from the streets and school yards from whence it all started.
Society tells the prey to get over it, while they tell the predator nothing. Stand up, stand down, no matter what the prey does, they’re painted by society as the cause for being too weak, for not wanting to fight back. Then when they do stand up for themselves, they’re the ones who end up being punished, while the predator gets comforted. Go figure.
Is this all British inspired? A lot of it. They tell the weak to stand down when they’re attacked. Does the USA do that? Stand down when it’s attacked? Does Britain do that? There are even anti-stand your ground laws, blaming the prey if the prey strikes back against the predator.
“Sticks and stones can break your bones and names can also hurt you.”
The British advise if someone calls you a name don’t respond. They don’t advise the predator not to call names in the first place. They don’t address them. The entire onus is placed on the prey, not the predator. If you’re weak you’re to blame, if you respond in kind you’re to blame. Something is very wrong with this construct.
Find the weakest spot and exploit it. So the advisors are also predators. That’s the problem. Along with that, humans by nature like winners, not losers, in any endeavor, sport or conflict. The loser is seen as having done something wrong, not something right.
So there you go, bullies are opportunistic predators; it’s a policy of nature that just so happens to be hypocritical. Exploit the weak. That’s what the universe does. That’s what rocks do, what weather does. But humans? Like it or not that’s what energy does. Humans are bundles of energy that can do anything any animal can do by building the means to do it. Can’t fly, build a plane.
All animals exploit the weak; some kill the weak. Humans too.
Before long mental illnesses will be called normal, and it will be up to the non-mentally ill to accept and work with or around the behaviors of those mentally challenged, rather than treat them.
Sticks and stones can break your bones and names can also hurt you – long term with side effects that may not go away.
